A kitchen renovation left the homeowners with a dirt trail as their primary entrance into their house. The house sat tight to the back lot line and the children were transitioning from playgrounds to high school parties. All these factors informed a redesign of the yard to match their changing lifestyle. We added a raised dining terrace off the kitchen which balanced how the house sat on the lot. The backyard had just enough space for a garden walk to the kitchen door with evergreen screening along the rear lot line. The playground structure was replaced with an outdoor fireplace and seating area surrounded by new plantings.
